Cheryl,

You make us recall three special memories in our family lives together.

We would like to share them.

Employees within the Corps sought you out during major grammar debates and heated discussions. Without your succinct redirection in most cases, our federal government would have been without correct linguistic guidance. Its rules, regulations and correspondences would have been even less clear and concise. Hopefully, for my sake this paragraph is structured correctly.

You may remember my request for your assistance on designing a hiking trail at the Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. You were gracious enough to drive to Liberty and provide needed assistance and suggestions for planning a trail for all visitors. It seemed like only yesterday to me, but again we now are turning 65.

You exhibited gracious demeanor in the very crowded Grosser kitchen in Raytown. You had the Tatschl and Berry families present along with your own brood. As you and guests prepared food for serving and cooking hamburgers, crabgrass continued to grow in the backyard with vigor in the Grosser pasture. High crabgrass did not slow Dawn and our kids from playing ball and having a great time together.

You and Dawn may want to know of our Corpus Christi connection. We go birding and have visited King Ranch in Kingsville. But our trips were not completely about birding. Stacy married a young man in the Navy and lived in Kingsville during his initial flight training. They are currently in Virginia Beach with two of our granddaughters. Ron, a railroad bridge engineer, and Kirsten live in Parkville with our two older granddaughters.

We miss seeing and being with you two. Memories come up often about Roger for Corps and personal reasons.

Happy 65 and enjoy Washington DC!

PS: Writing to an English teacher is a difficult task!

Cheryl,

When I hear your name along with Baylor, my thoughts are directed toward blue jeans and your Dad. Yes, blue jeans. You may be able to guess how Roger (I really miss him! He was a great guy!) fits into my thoughts.

If I recall the story correctly, Roger took you to Baylor for opening of university life. The act seems simple enough but not with your dad involved in the move. When he returned to work, I remember him complaining about you having 24 pairs of jeans. He questioned "Why would one woman need 24 pairs of jeans for college?."

We go birding all over now. It is a wonderful hobby for enjoying nature and God's creations.

There are two orthopedic surgeons in Sue's side of the family. David is currently practicing in Shreveport, and Neil is leaving the Army to join David.

Keep in touch and enjoy Cheryl.
